Replacing a bookmark manager: what actually matters

Every bookmark manager can store a URL and let you make folders. The differences that matter show up at scale — a few hundred saves in, when the folders are stale and you can't find the thing you know you kept. Here's what to compare, and where Fav lands.

Manual organisation is the part that fails

Folders and tags work while you're motivated to maintain them. Fav's premise is that the filing should be automatic: it writes the title, summary, and tags itself, and you correct it when it's wrong instead of doing it from scratch every time.

Storing the page vs storing the link

Most bookmark managers store a URL and maybe a thumbnail. Fav copies the post's images and video into your own storage, so deleted posts and expired media links don't hollow out your library. This is the single biggest difference in what you own a year later.

Where you actually save from

Most saving happens on a phone, mid-scroll, from a share sheet. Fav is mobile-first for that reason: share into it from X, Instagram, TikTok, Xiaohongshu, Douyin, Reddit, YouTube or a browser, and the filing happens after you've moved on.

Search that survives forgetting

Compare search honestly: type a half-remembered description rather than an exact title. Fav searches by meaning and tells you why each result matched — a tag, the summary, OCR'd text in an image, or related content.

What it costs, and what's free

Saving, AI analysis, and search are free, with 2 GB of media storage and a daily AI credit allowance. Plus is $2.99/month for 100 GB, Pro is $6.99/month for 1 TB. No ads, no third-party ad tracking, no IDFA.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a browser extension?

Not currently — Fav is a mobile app, and saving happens through the share sheet. Public favorites have web pages anyone can open without installing anything.

Can I still organise things myself?

Yes. Tags and titles are editable, you can tell the AI what to fix and have it re-analyze, or re-fetch the original source.

Are my bookmarks private?

Private by default. A favorite becomes public only when you choose to publish it, and you can reverse that at any time.
